Big change coming to IKEA

VISITING IKEA can be a either a dream or a nightmare, depending what side of the fence you sit on.

But now the homewares giant is offering an alternative for those wanting the perfect piece of build-it-yourself furniture, without having to battle the crowds.

IKEA is the latest retailer to announce it will offer online shopping through a click-and-collect service, with the option available in Queensland from August 1.

Rather than traipsing around the company's mega-stores in Logan and North Lakes, customers will soon be able to make their purchases online and then pick up from either location.

The option was in addition to a new service by the retailer which began rolling out last year, which allowed customers to have orders delivered to a range of regional collection points across the state including Cairns, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Longreach.

But unlike many other retailers who offer click-and-collect as a free option, IKEA's will come with a fee.

In this case, the company plans to charge $40 for click and collect, while collection-point delivery stars at $59.

Metro home delivery is also available, with delivery fees from $99.

Multichannel manager Michael Donath said the move would offer customers across the state more flexibility.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring this complete online shopping service to Queensland," he said.

"There was a lot of buzz when we announced regional collection points for IKEA earlier this year.

"But this next step is very exciting as now everyone in the Sunshine State will be able to access IKEA products, and also have the flexibility to decide how they want to shop with us."
