Big bash fun for the Hillbillies
TRAVIS Chandler is not just a weapon with the ball.
The Helltown Hillbilly paceman showed he can hit as hard as anyone in the CUB Big Bash 20Twenty cricket competition in Maryborough.
Chandler scored a quick fire 59, opening the batting, to set up a total of 6 for 192 for the Hillbillies.
His innings included three sixes and four fours.
The total was enough to win the match for the Gympie side.
Craignish only managed 84 in reply.
The Hillbillies shared the wickets with the ball with Rhys O’Brien, Andy Batten, and Brad Brigg all claiming two scalps.
Cameron Quinn, Justin Chandler and Travis Chandler all chipped in with one wicket each.
The Hillbillies have gone through the CUB Big Bash competition undefeated and will play off in the finals this weekend.
The only team they haven’t defeated is Bundy Boys.
The Hillbillies were scheduled to play off against the Bundy Boys last weekend.
But bad weather forced the cancellation of the game.
It now looks like the Hillbillies, who are first on the ladder, will play the Bundy Boys, who are second on the ladder, in the final.
There will be three games of 20Twenty cricket on Sunday.
Across the Waves and Gympie will play the first semi at 10am on the main oval, while Australs and Bundy Boys will play at their semi at the same time on Oval 3.
The winners of those games will meet in the 1.30pm grand final.
The winner of the final will receive $600 cash and the runners up $400, with an extra $300 being put up for player awards.
Bar and canteen facilities will be open on the day.
The Hillbillies are taking a bus to the final and have some seats remaining.
Anyone wishing to go along for the day can contact Kirsty Chandler on 0420 569 545.
Cost of the bus is $10 a head.
It leaves from the Jockey Club hotel on Exhibition Rd at 8am and will return at approximately 7pm.
