Best spots to hook 'em in choppy weather
CONDITIONS will be a bit choppy still today with winds south to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots and seas 1 to 1.5 metres.
The weekend will be great weather but is looking okay but with choppy southerly to south easterly conditions in the 10 to 20 knot range. Local kayak angler Warren Norup has fished Sunshine Reef again this week separate occasions for three quality spanish mackerel, in the 11kg to 132cm /14.2kg size range on a trolled bonito.
Big snapper on Sunshine and North Reef on pilly floaters down the burley trail the biggest one went 82cm as well as coral trout, spanish mackerel, yellow tail kingfish and grass sweetlip and also a few cobia.
Snapper, pearl perch, nice tusk fish and cod from local reefs out from Mooloolaba and Caloundra. Jew and sweetlip from Currimundi. Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and big tusk fish from the Barwon Banks.
At Double Island Point there have been tusk fish, maori cod, a rare blue maori cod, big grassy sweetlip and spangled emperor, pearl perch, big snapper, gold band snapper, moses perch, nannygai and trevally. There have been good catches of jew, quality snapper, pearlies, sweetlip, nannygai, moses perch, maori and big estuary rock cod and still a few mackerel around the 22nm reefs east of the Wide Bay Bar.
Out and around Hervey Bay
TAILOR and great fun on golden trevally this week on the the flats and in the deeper water and school mackerel in some of the deeper channels off River Heads and in the Strait. The cold snap has a few good keeper snapper feeding, as well as cobia, mackerel, the odd coral trout and a few and squid being taken on the inshore reefs.
Bream and chopper tailor in the lower reaches of the Burrum River and a few sand crabs to be taken around Burrum Heads and Woodgate areas. Great Sandy Strait is producing good catches of whiting, flathead and plenty of quality bream showing up throughout.
The winter whiting numbers are increasing and they are starting to congregate in schools so try around Gatakers Bay, towards Toogoom and around the Woody islands. Estuaries and beaches
FRASER Island: As the seas have settled down there are some great gutters and deeper holes forming along the beach. Target dart, whiting, bream, chopper tailor and quality jew moving through the gutters at night along the eastern beach. You still need to be cautious travelling around the rocky outcrops along the Eastern Beach.
On the western side of Fraser Island there's been plenty of whiting and catches of flathead and trevally, while in the creeks and the flats there's a few good grunter bream, flathead still a few mud crab and the promise of a few sand crabs on offer.
Rainbow Beach: Remember, the 2018 Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic and Expo is on from July 20-28. The jew have been moving through the gutters particularly at night and try for chopper tailor at dawn and dusk and go for flathead, dart, whiting in the gutters through the day at Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point and Teewah Beach.
A few good whiting, bream and dart up the beach and around Inskip Point. Tin Can Bay is fishing well for a few chopper tailor whiting, plenty of good bream, flathead, sand crabs trevally and still getting a few good muddies.
Local dams and rivers
BORUMBA Dam has been host to quality bass and a few good yellowbelly, particularly in the past couple of weeks. Generally there are quality bass, saratoga and yellowbelly feeding in the dams at present.
Borumba Dam has bass and saratoga still hitting lures and fly particularly on Jackall tn60 lures. Plenty of quality bass and golden perch on trolled lures from the junctions in Boondooma Dam. Noosa: Try for luderick or blackfish at the car park rocks at the river mouth and lower river. Flathead around Munna Pt and good golden trevally around the sand bags. Some big flathead to 76cm been released in the lower estuary. Chopper tailor and a few good whiting caught over the weekend as well as bream and trevally from the river mouth.

A few good bream to 36cm feeding in the lower river. Some really nice gutters along Mudjimba and Marcoola Beach's to try for a few dart, bream and jew at night. School jew in the middle river with a few big fish taken in the Cod Hole. Several quality flathead and big whiting to 40cm caught in the lower reaches over the weekend. A few sand crabs in the lower river.
