Beetson helps jobless
FORMER Rugby League great Artie Beetson will be in town to help job seekers in the Gympie and South Burnett area to secure work.
Employment co-ordinator Garry Davison announced Beetson would be one of the guest Jobs Ambassadors for the ‘Keep Australia Working’ Centrelink Jobs Expo, to be held on Friday, May 28, at The Pavilion from 10am-3pm.
There will be hundreds of jobs on offer from local businesses, apprenticeship organisations and government agencies.
Mr Davison said job seekers needed practical help – which is what the Expo would provide.
“It’s pretty simple. We are putting local employers with jobs and local people looking for work in the one place,” he said.
There will be jobs available across a range of industries including employers like Woolworths, Nolan Meats, Smith and Sons, and Telstra who will be there on the day.
“I encourage all job seekers to come to the Jobs Expo," Mr Davison said.
“Come and talk to the employers and check out the huge jobs board with hundreds of jobs.
“Those interested in exhibiting at the Jobs Expo can contact me on 0409 821 633.”
The Gympie Jobs Expo is one of more than 20 Keep Australia Working Jobs Expos being run across the country in areas hit hardest by the global recession.
Out of 13 Jobs Expos held so far, more than 57,000 job seekers have been attracted, 5000 jobs have been filled and 1000 exhibitors have participated.
