Beach rules OK: drivers

THE new Cooloola Coast and Noosa North Shore vehicle restrictions, including a new safety zone for kids and campers has received a thumbs up from the North Coast 4x4 Club.

Four-wheel drive enthusiast and club spokespersons Mark Haeusler said he thought the new vehicle exclusion zone from First Cutting to Third Cutting south of Teewah, was basically a pretty good idea.

“Safety is the paramount thing - I have stayed at the wilderness camp myself and there is nothing better than to walk over the dunes down to the beach.

“But there is a lot of traffic at peak times and kids just don’t hear the traffic coming,” he said.

North Shore residents spokesman Peter Upton said luckily a serious accident between kids playing and the passing traffic has been avoided so far.

“Most people on the beach who drive on the beach have been conscious of this and slow down,” he said.

Gympie property developer and Noosa River ferry operator Cliff Andreassen said it was something the North Shore locals had been working on in recent years and was a “fairly good compromise all-round”.
