Bayldon struts his stuff in front of Roar scouts
FOOTBALL: Gympie Diggers Division 1 player Billy Bayldon played in a Sunshine Coast Football team against the under-18 Sunshine Coast Fire last night - with Brisbane Roar scouts at the match.
Bayldon said a number of players, aged 16-18, from the McDonald's Premier League and playing in the competition, were nominated by their coaches to attend the Maroochydore trials.
Gympie Diggers coach Joachim Klein nominated Bayldon and he was one of the 35 chosen to play in the mock games two weeks ago.
Bayldon said the selection process was done in a matter of an hour and from 35 players nominated he made the 13 man line-up.
"There was limited time to show them as much as you could," Bayldon said.
The striker and former Queensland junior said this was the first year the game has been organised and it would likely continue to be played in coming years.
The kick-off was set for 7pm last night with the coach and Brisbane Roar officials expected to be scouting the game.
Bayldon said although the team would have changed again this year, he expected to see some players in the opposition he might have played previously.
The teenager said the team he was playing had a lot of strong players he has played against in both competition and trials and would be competitive.
"We should win, to be honest," he said.
Bayldon said it will be good to play in front of representative from Brisbane Roar, but the game itself will be good experience.
