Plate earns third dan black belt
GYMPIE Karate Club senior instructor and state judge Barry Plate has obtained his third dan black belt.
Plate achieved the honour in Bundaberg recently, surviving a gruelling grading lasting four intense days.
Full of praise for Plate’s efforts was Gympie Karate Club Sensei Noel Turner.
“Barry is a loyal, dedicated member and is always out to help others,” he said.
Making the grade to receive his third dan black belt, Plate drew on his many years in karate, impressing onlookers with his skill.
Turner said Plate’s achievement would motivate the Gympie Karate Club’s younger members to aspire to a similar achievement.
Karate is a sport where hard work equals success and Plate will be eager to provide guidance.
“Barry has been following the circuit taking in regional, state and national events for many years in Kata and Kumite,” Sensei Turner said.
Plate’s achievement continues the success for the Gympie Karate Club this year.
After participating in numerous events, producing outstanding results, and taking part in a number of training seminars, the Gympie Karate Club is setting a high benchmark for next year.
But not one to back away from the challenge, Sensei Turner will be looking to continue this success.
