Ball to help cancer patients
A STARRY, starry night that will set the tone for future balls in Gympie will be held next weekend but time is running out to buy tickets.
This magical night, themed Shooting for the Stars, is Supporting Chemotherapy in Cooloola’s (SCIC) major fundraising event for the year.
SCIC president Gordon Owen said there would be glitz and glamour, an auction and scrumptious food. And the showgrounds’ pavilion would be adorned with frills to suit.
Details remain under wraps but Mr Owen said people would be startled.
One of the biggest gigs on Gympie’s events’ calendar, the Gala Charity Ball black tie night will raise funds for five units on Everson Road that will provide some relief for cancer patients.
Mr Owen said the unit project had all but started, with just some minor details to complete.
The old Northumberland Hotel units are what patients currently use and Mr Owen said they were very grateful to have a place to rest before heading home from treatment.
He said one patient who lived on the Cooloola Coast and drove to Nambour for treatment was too sick to continue his journey all the way home to Rainbow Beach and was thankful to be able to rest at the North.
The basic units will provide a free, comfortable place for cancer patients and families of the Gympie district to stay while undergoing treatment at the Gympie Hospital and will be the only accommodation of its kind in the region.
Six-piece band Midnight Groove, one of Australia’s premier corporate music acts for more than 10 years, will provide the music for the event. The Gold Coast band has extensive experience, having played to a large variety of high-profile clients. With a diverse repertoire of more than 300 songs it is sure to get toes tapping and guests dancing the night away.
The Shooting for the Stars Gala Charity Ball will be held on Saturday, July 24. Tables of 10 are available for groups but tickets are limited and at the cost of $100 which includes a $40 per head tax deductible donation, you have to be quick.
Tickets are available from Harvey World Travel Gympie phone 5482 8388 but all tickets are to be paid for and collected by Wednesday, July 21.
