Axe falls on The Circle

FORMER high-rating morning TV show, The Circle, has been axed by the Ten Network in a major scheduling reshuffle.

Earlier speculation about the future of Ten's Breakfast program proved wrong, with the struggling show being spared the axe, the Sydney Morning Herald reported today.

"The decision to cease production of The Circle is unfortunate and was not taken lightly," said Ten's chief executive James Warburton.

"But tight fiscal control and cost discipline are a core part of our strategy."

Circle co-host Yumi Stynes, who came under fire earlier this year for comments about Victoria Cross recipient Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith, thanked fans for their support, tweeting:"Hey thanks everyone for so much warmth and positivity! We believe in love and laughter! #hugs".

Regular Circle special guest co-host Meshel Laurie also tweeted about the show's axing: "Man I loved working on @thecircle_ten I've had a lot of jobs, but that one was special and I'd hoped to be involved for a very long time".

Occupying the first hour of The Circle's mid-morning timeslot will be The Talk, an American female-oriented talk show hosted by Roseanne star Sara Gilbert.

Then Ten's Morning News, hosted by Ron Wilson, will air from 10am to 11am, followed by American entertainment and celebrity news shows Entertainment Tonight and The Insider.

From Monday, August 6, Ten's morning line-up will comprise:

• 6am to 8.30am: Breakfast

• 8.30am to 9am: Wurrawhy

• 9am to 10am: The Talk

• 10am to 11am: TEN Morning News

• 11am to 11.30am: Entertainment Tonight

• 11.30am to 12: The Insider
