Awards underline value of sport
UNDERSTANDABLY, a lot of attention in the lead-up to the 2009 Sports Star of the Year Awards is falling on the big award itself – the Sports Star of the Year.
But do not be fooled into thinking that is where the accolades end. Also up for grabs are the following awards:
- AWD Sports Star of the Year
- Masters of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Administrator/Coach of the Year
Each award recognises the incredible contributions nominees have made to the Gympie sporting landscape.
Individual sport can garner plenty of attention for the sacrifice athletes make to realise their dreams, but sporting teams are also a tremendous source of inspiration.
Teams require leadership and, above all, a sense of unity.
Team members draw on each other for support and encouragement – and solace when things do not go as planned.
Masters athletes are also a source of inspiration, proving sport is for life.
They encapsulate the sporting ethos – staying active and enjoying life.
AWD athletes prove physical and mental impediments are no barrier, and coaches and sporting administrators play a valuable role, often donating their time because of their passion.
