Awards revealed at Gympie ceremony

NOMINEES in the Australia Day Awards will find out if they have won one of the eight categories at the Civic Centre on Tuesday

The categories are:

 Cultural Award

 Youth Cultural Award

 Youth Sports Award

 Sports Award

 Sports Administration Award

 Community Event of the Year

 Young Citizen of the Year

 Citizen of the Year

The citizenship ceremony will also be a big part of the morning where 17 Gympie residents will become naturalised citizens.

The official opening will be performed by Cr Rae Gate starting at 10am, followed by the citizenship ceremony and then the awards.

Music for the day will be provided by Alice Benfer and Graeme Jensen and refreshments will be served at the conclusion at midday.

A Gympie Regional Council spokeswoman said the celebrations have been shortened to a half day, to allow the new citizens a chance to go and celebrate with their families.
