Australia top Brazil at water polo

THE Australian men's water polo team has thumped Brazil 13-6 in its second preliminary stage game at the FINA World League Super Finals in Kazakhstan.

The Aussies showed more intensity in defence than they had in the previous night's 14-11 loss to London Olympics foes Croatia.

That provided the Sharks with plenty of counter attacking opportunities, Beijing Olympian Anthony Martin and rising star AJ Roach taking advantage to score three goals each, while triple Olympian Thomas Whalan banged in two.

The Australians were once again without Gavin Woods and Rhys Howden who were both accidently injured in training incidents at the team's camp in Bangkok last week.

The Sharks will play another of their London group rivals Spain in their final preliminary match today.

The 13-man Australian Olympic squad will be named at the end of next week.
