Aussie woman who may have been victim of scam found dead

AN AUSTRALIAN widow who set off on an overseas adventure to be with her online boyfriend has been found dead in a South African villa.

Jette Jacobs, 67, reportedly sent more than $80,000 to a Nigerian man called "Jesse Orowo Omokah" who she met through an online dating sight.

According to WA Today, Ms Jacobs flew to Johannesburg in 2010, met Jesse and returned home to Wagin, about 200kms south-east of Perth, without incident.

Just days after she left the country again in November last year, Western Australian police sent a letter to Ms Jacobs warning she may be the victim of a scam.

She never received it.

Police confirmed on Monday Ms Jacob's body had been found in her rented Johannesburg villa on February 9.

Her money, credit cards, jewellery and laptop were missing.

Detectives from the Major Fraud Squad are investigating.
