Aussie openers hot in warm-up

AUSTRALIA and England have rewritten the history books in their warm-up matches ahead of tomorrow night's opening game of the five-match one-day international series.

Openers Shaun Marsh (151, pictured) and Aaron Finch (148) posted career-high one-day scores as Australia reached 3-362 after being sent in by Scotland, which fielded several amateur players.

The Scots were bowled out for 162 in reply, Mitchell Johnson the pick of the bowlers with 4-36.

The opening stand of 246 was an Australian record partnership for the first wicket, passing the 212 by Shaun's father, Geoff, and David Boon against India in 1986.

Finch hit 16 fours and seven sixes, the innings coming on top of his record 156 off 63 balls in a T20 against England last week.

England had a tougher match against Ireland which batted first and made 7-269, skipper William Porterfield leading the way with 112.

In reply, England slipped to 48-4 as Tim Murtagh ran through the top order. But captain Eoin Morgan (124) combined with Ravi Bopara (101) for a world record fifth-wicket stand of 226 to see England home with seven overs remaining.
