Are you a sports star?

SEVEN finalists have already been selected for the 2011/2012 Gympie Sportsman's Association Sports Star of the Year and it is not too late to enter for one of the remaining five spots.

The current finalists are: Stephen O'May, Patrick Barnes, Ella Flack, Liam O'Brien, Tamika Anderson and Joel Kelso.

The Gympie Times has teamed up with the Sportsman's Association and generous sponsors Apex, Zinc FM, McDonald's, Nestle, Cooloola Fitness Centre and Charlies to run the annual competition.

There are three major prizes to win in the Sports Star of the Year award.

The overall winner takes home $1000 plus a trophy.

The Junior Sports Star of the Year award winner gets $500 and a trophy.

The All Rounder receives $300, a trophy and 12 months gym membership at the Cooloola Fitness Centre.

One lucky athlete could win all three and take home more than $1800 in prizes.

Voting for the winners will be carried out in The Gympie Times newspaper and online.

The readers' vote will make up 50% of the count and a selection panel made up of the Gympie Sportsman's Association will vote for the remainder.

If you know a local sport star, then nominate them for the award and put them in the running to win their share of some great prizes.

Nomination forms are in The Gympie Times or you can email your nomination to Craig Warhurst at sport@gympietimes.com.

Include in the email the sports person's name and a list of their achievements, along with a contact phone number for them.
