Angry doctors back no confidence motion on Springborg

HUNDREDS of doctors who met in Brisbane last night have backed a  "no confidence" motion in Health Minister Lawrence Springborg over proposed public hospital contracts.

Hundreds of doctors from across Queensland packed the Pineapple Hotel in Brisbane for a meeting to discuss contracts being proposed by Mr Springborg.

Doctors have claimed the contracts are unfair, arguing they will lose money and work conditions and have threatened to quit their positions, potentially shutting down Queensland hospitals

The meeting called for the State Government to restart negotiations over the contracts with doctor unions and the Australian Medical Association, after being told 1500 doctors had voted against the contracts at hospital meetings throughout the state.

News Ltd was this morning reporting that a secret meeting of politicians and doctor representatives was scheduled to end the stoush over the contracts.

Mr Springborg was invited to last night's meeting but didn't attend.
