Alli sees red as Spurs crash out of Europe

FOOTBALL: Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has condemned Dele Alli for a shocking tackle that earned him a red card as his team crashed out of the Europa League at Wembley.

Spurs were level on the night at 1-1 but a goal down on aggregate when the England international left Gent's Brecht Dejaegere in a heap on the ground following an over-the-top tackle five minutes before half-time that deserved to be punished.

Although Spurs took the lead again through Victor Wanyama, a late goal from the Belgian visitors knocked the London side out at the last-32 stage, drawing 2-2 on the night and handing Gent a 3-2 win on aggregate.

Speaking on BT Sport, Redknapp did not hold back when asked about Alli's tackle.

"(Alli) could have finished a fella's career. He could have finished a boy's career. There's no doubt. It was that bad," Redknapp said.

"He could have broken the lad's leg, snapped his leg, and that would have been the end.

"He's got to cut that out of his game. He's got that streak in him. I rave about the boy. That tackle is horrendous. He could've finished that fella's career there with that tackle.

"He's not got a decision, you can see his reaction straight away, he's lost his head. How the fella's not got a broken leg, I do not know. It's a miracle."
