Bail release for accused ute thief

LATEST: A Bundamba man who allegedly ran a red light and crashed a stolen car into a power pole at Raceview has been released on bail.

Cameron James Bowen, 20, fronted Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday after being charged with a host of offences stemming from the incident on Tuesday afternoon on South Station Road.

Those offences include unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop, stealing and a fail to appear.

Police will allege the vehicle was stolen from an address in Silkstone earlier in the day.

His matter was adjourned until June 1.

 

TUESDAY 3PM: Energex crews are still working to replace a damaged pole at the site of a crash involving a stolen car.

Police say a stolen ute ran a red light, then collided with another car at the intersection of Blackstone Rd and South Station Rd about noon today.

One person was injured and taken to hospital.

An Energex spokesman says motorists should expect delays as technicians work to restore power to the area.

A total of 1957 customers are still without power and crews will work as quickly as possible to have the power supply restored.

 

EARLIER: A man is in custody after allegedly running a red light in a stolen car and crashing into an innocent motorist.

Police say the stolen Falcon utility was involved in a two car crash at the intersection of South Station Rd and Blackstone Rd, at Silkstone, about noon.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested at the scene.

The vehicle was reported stolen from a house in Alice St, Silkstone about 10.30am, with numerous sightings reported in the area in the lead-up to the crash.

Police say there was no pursuit at the time of the collision.

Power lines were brought down at the crash site and there have been delays for motorists in the area.

Queensland Ambulance Service says one person has been taken to Ipswich Hospital with minor injuries.
