Allan rides to the top

GYMPIE'S motorbike kids keep proving the hilly terrain out this way makes great riders.

The latest to do the juniors proud is Peter-Daniel Allan.

At 15 years old the St Patrick's student already knows he wants to ride professional off-road in Europe, where the sport is bigger.

He has just landed third place in the Australian Off-Road Championships, proving he is one of the fastest juniors on the circuit.

Dad Peter Allan said it was his son's first attempt at the Australian Champs.

Peter-Daniel was the Queensland champion last year for his age group and is looking set to repeat that win this year.

He has won two rounds of the Queensland sprints and enduro competition.

With one round yet to go it looks like he will scoop both prizes.

Allan said his son was really happy with his performance in the national comp and was looking forward to next year's competition, where he will still be a junior.

Peter-Daniel got into motorbike riding only a few years ago.

He started riding with his dad in the bush and joined the local club. After he broke a bike in a club race he debuted on the state scene.

"A retired ex-champion told me to get him on a good bike and let him race. He was very fast in the junior club days," Allan said.

"And that has paid off. Nearly every event he has entered into in Queensland he has won.

"He has had a quick ride to success and always loved riding."

With big ambitions to represent Australia in international off-road competitions, Peter-Daniel has a long career ahead of him.
