Gympie drivers all revved up for the speedway
HELD at Brobenah Speedway, Leeton, the titles will be run on one of the biggest tracks in Australia, a 900m oiled dirt track, more than double the size of the 420m clay track at Mothar Mountain.
The five Gympie drivers make up the majority of the seven Queenslanders entering the event, with 27 cars in total lining up.
Neil Keldoulis, Stephen-John Lahiff, Selina English, Daniel Henshaw and defending champion Frank Packer make up the local contingent.
"The longer track will certainly be a test, but I'm confident I can finish on top," Keldoulis said.
"I came fifth last year, but my car is in better condition now and I'm in pretty good form.
"I won the Queensland Production Sedans Title four years ago so maybe I'm due for another state title."
Gympie Speedway publicity officer Amy Brown said the titles are a good chance for the drivers to get some time on the track before the Australian Production Sedan Titles at Mothar Mountain on April 25-26.
"Frank won the NSW title last year, and Neil and Selina also competed while this will be the first time Stephen-John and Daniel have raced outside Queensland," Brown said.
The drivers will battle it out over three heats before lining up for the 20-lap feature race.
