Air Australia in administration

THE sudden grounding of Air Australia flights after an announcement the company had gone into voluntary administration has left travellers stranded overseas.

Passengers are now reportedly stranded at Air Australia destinations, including Thailand, as they try desperately try to find another way home.

ARE YOU AFFECTED? LET US KNOW:

The company -- previously Strategic Air -- made clear that flights booked trips with the apparently-troubled airline "will not take place".

A release on Air Australia's website reads: "In the short term, the fleet will be grounded."

"It currently appears that there are no funds available to meet operational expenses so flights will be suspended immediately.

"For clarity, it also appears highly unlikely there will be any flights in the short to medium term.

"You should make alternate travel arrangements."

The statement outlines that if a passenger is "stranded overseas and can't afford to get home" they should contact their credit card provider immediately.

However it was more grim news for those who paid the airline in cash.

"It is likely you will not be entitled to a refund unless you took out insurance and that insurance covers an event of insolvency, i.e. the financial failure of an airline."

The airline had only rebranded itself as Air Australia in November, as it began flights from Brisbane to Honolulu.
