JUNIOR Gympie squash player Oliver Kerr isn’t daunted by the prospect of playing opponents twice his age, which explains why his winning record this season is grabbing attention.
Six weeks remain in the current squash season and Kerr, 6, has won five matches from eight outings. The three he has lost have been by close margins.
Proud mum Susan Kerr has been blown away by her son’s instant success on the squash court.
“Oliver may be the youngest and smallest fixture player to hit the court, but that seems no barrier for his determination and skill,” she said.
“At only six years of age, Oliver is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.”
Part of young Oliver’s success has been his devotion to practice, hitting the courts and shaping his game whenever the chance arises.
Susan said her son was naturally athletic, helping him enjoy a jump-start in the highly competitive sport of squash.
“He recently broke a record at Victory College of the school’s cross country,” she said.
