Afternoon of music a special gift for mums
MOTHERS deserve the attention lavished on them on their special day: the flowers, the chocolates, new toasters, warm slippers, dressing gowns, works of art from their littlies, being taken out for dinner, and most of all, visits from their loved ones.
But what about some real live music?
The organising committee of the Cooloola Community Orchestra had just that in mind.
And, when they set out to arrange a Mother's Day concert, and for their first major concert of the year they decided to venture a bit out of town - to the Pie Creek Hall, meeting place for a thriving community, venue for weddings and other functions, and a very welcoming committee.
The concert is organised as an afternoon tea with cakes and savouries served in the interval.
This alleviates the discomfort of sitting on a chair for the duration of the concert and allows guests to sit comfortably around a table with family, friends and a cuppa.
The full orchestra will play for half the concert, with well-rehearsed light classical and popular items, and the Gympie Strings will make up the rest with their musical gifts for mothers.
The concert will be held on Saturday, May 13 at 2.30pm in Pie Creek Hall. To get there, follow Exhibition Rd out of town for about 5km.
Admission (includes afternoon tea) adults $12, children $5, families $25.
