Toowoomba sex store armed robber flees community supervision

UPDATE:

A fugitive sex offender, who committed an armed robbery in Toowoomba, evaded capture by police yesterday by running into a crocodile-infested creek in Townsville.

Tyrone James Speechley, 25, removed his GPS monitoring device and fled from community supervision in Townsville on Monday night.

Police chased Speechley and another offender, Algana Amos James Tiers, through scrubland, and managed to capture Tiers.

Speechley is believed to have stolen a car from a nearby property.

He was released from jail in February, after being convicted of an armed robbery of a Toowoomba adult store while on strict parole conditions.

Speechley left the low-security Townsville accommodation centre with another offender, Algana Amos James Tiers, 26, on Monday night.

A CONVICTED sex offender removed his GPS monitoring device and fled from community supervision in Townsville last night.

Tyrone James Speechley, 25, was released from jail in February, after being convicted of an armed robbery of a Toowoomba adult store while on strict parole conditions.

Speechly left the Townsville accommodation centre with another offender, Algana Amos James Tiers, 26.

Previously, Speechley had served three years for sexual assault offences and assault with intent to rape, and he was subject to the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003.

Court documents showed before being released, two psychiatrists expressed concerns at Speechley's ability to comply with the current supervision order.

One psychiatrist concluded Speechley's risk of sexual re-offending was at least moderate and would be high if alcohol and drugs were involved.

Police were attempting to execute a search warrant on one of the men.

They were last seen on foot in the Stuart area near the Townsville Correctional Centre farm and QPS officers are searching the area.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the men should contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
