Adult club's staffing dilemma

IT seems no matter what the industry, it can be tough going to find honest, hard-working staff.

Just ask the lessee of Secret Door Playhouse, Geoff Dear.

The Sunshine Coast’s first licensed adult club is soon to open in Avian Street at Kunda Park, next door to the legal brothel Scarlet Harem.

Mr Dear is seeking a wide range of people to fill positions, including comedians, bands, strippers, drag queens, pole dancers, singers, waiters, bar staff and “hosts”.

But he said so far the quality of applicants had been “disappointing’’ despite the reported job slump on the Coast.

“We advertised for professional, self-motivated, honest, articulate, enthusiastic and reliable applicants only,” Mr Dear said.

“No time wasters, but there are people coming down here in rubber thongs and shorts, answering questions with ‘oh yeah, man’.

“That is not the right attitude.”

Mr Dear said some applicants were just turning up to be able to “write something on their dole form”.

“I get the impression some people are lazy and just don’t want to work,” he said.

Scarlet Harem owner Paris Satine is behind the controversial adult club.

She was in negotiations with Sunshine Coast Council for 18 months before getting approval this time last year.

The proposal received close to 100 objections to the council, many from the nearby CVC radio station and residents whose properties back on to the site.

However, Ms Satine said the establishment would be “classy” and “not a gentleman’s club, but a club for all”.

The building has been designed to include a bar and drinks area, a small stage, and seating to accommodate up to 100 patrons.
