Adelaide United hoping it's not the end for skipper

TONIGHT may be last time Adelaide United fans get to see legendary skipper Eugene Galekovic and championship winning coach Guillermo Amor if things don't go their way in the final Group H AFC Champions League match.

That clash deserves a full house just in case it is the farewell match for championship winners Galekovic, Sergio Cirio and Dylan McGowan at Hindmarsh while a wrong result could also spell the end of Baba Diawara and Kim Jae-sung.

Not forgetting that Marcelo Carrusca and Iacopo La Rocca who weren't part of the Champions League squad may have already said their goodbyes in the last A-League match of the season while a raft of other players could also be taking their final strides as United players.

Adelaide must beat China's Jiangsu Suning to have an hope of prolonging the goodbyes at the end of the season but it also must rely on Gamba Osaka taking points from Jeju United in the other Group H clash which is played simultaneously for the extension.

But squad hasn't talked about any farewells said Taylor Regan.

"I'm sure the club could probably market it like that (as a farewell clash),'' Regan said.

"But realistically we're confident we can win and we have got some friends over in Japan and they're hoping they can win too.

"We focus on the result and if it is the end for some of these players it's difficult that's football.

"We're confident we can get the result and give them another two games minimum."

With Jiangsu bringing an understrength line up to Adelaide given the club has already qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League, Amor is confident of a win must do it without the injured Ben Garuccio and the suspended Jordan O'Doherty.

Amor revealed Garuccio may need surgery after he injured his ankle in a training mishap last week.

"He's out definitely,'' Amor said.

"Surgery that's possible and we must wait now and it depends day-by-day, the specialists are the most important people now."

Amor said Ben Warland who had an impressive Champions League debut in Adelaide's 3-3 draw with Gamba Osaka may be an option at left back for Garuccio.

Riley McGree is expected to replace the suspended Jordan O'Doherty in midfield.
