State titles for Pony Club
THE time to shine has arrived for the Gympie Pony Club as the state titles for campdrafting, gymkhana, sporting and mounted games got under way yesterday.
The sheer scale of the event has been highlighted by the strong nominations and scores of families who have arrived throughout the week to set up camp at the Gympie Showgrounds.
Yesterday, the campdraft and gymkhana hit full stride at the Gympie Pony Club and Horse and Rodeo grounds on Jane Street.
Crowds filled the area taking in the event, cheering on competitors and soaking up the perfect conditions.
Gympie Pony Club publicity officer Michelle Winston said it was the first time the club had hosted a state event since 1976.
“It's been a long while but we are so glad to have the chance this year,” she said.
The event was originally to be held last year, but equine flu derailed plans.
Those who missed out on the action and excitement yesterday have today and tomorrow to fill the stands and lend support to local competitors as the event shifts location to the Gympie Showgrounds.
Today's events include mounted games, featuring teams from all zones across the breadth of Queensland.
The depth of talent is impressive.
Meanwhile, tomorrow will be sporting, and exists as a perfect way to end the three-day extravaganza with 267 nominations lining up to take part.
Gympie competitors hit the training paddock Monday this week to fine tune skills and team work ahead of the state titles.
