I'm out of here! Prisoner attempts to flee courtroom

AN accused armed robber dramatically jumped from the prisoner dock and tried to escape after his bail application was denied at Toowoomba Courthouse.

Aron Neville Wilson was stopped before he got out the door of Courtroom One and dragged back to the watch house yesterday morning.

Supporters in the courtroom were emotional and called out to Wilson as he was taken away.

Wilson called out "I love you, babe" as police cleared his supporters from the room.

The 21-year-old and his co-accused Calum Braydin Luckel, 20, had just had their applications for bail denied by Magistrate Damian Carroll.

They were accused of crimes including using a sawn-off 12 gauge shotgun to rob the Pacific Fuels service station in Drayton on Monday night.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Natalie Bugden said police found a loaded, 12-gauge shotgun under a mattress on which Wilson had been sleeping when they raided a Bridge St home on Wednesday.

It was alleged that a key to a stolen ute used as a getaway vehicle was found in Luckel's backpack during the same raid.

Snr Const. Bugden said both men's fingerprints were also found in the stolen ute after it was found abandoned in Wilsonton about two-and-a-half hours after the robbery.

She said police would allege Wilson had done the robbery while Luckel was the getaway driver.

Wilson's defence solicitor Chris Lumme said the fingerprints meant his client could have been in the ute anytime between when it was stolen on February 27 and when it was found.

Luckel's defence solicitor Brad Skuse also highlighted that point.

"It doesn't tie him into having possession of that vehicle at that particular time," Mr Skuse said.

Magistrate Damian Carroll said there was sufficient evidence to link both men to the armed robbery.

They were remanded in custody for their matters to next be mentioned on May 1.

Police yesterday said they intended to lay extra charges against Wilson of attempting to escape lawful custody and obstructing police.
