Accused murderer to stand trial

A 19-YEAR-OLD man has this morning been committed for trial for the rape and murder of a grandmother.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy, in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court, said she was satisfied after a three-day hearing that there was sufficient evidence to send David Samuel Aubrey Ray to the Supreme Court at Rockhampton for trial.

Ray is charged with the murder of Iris Temperley after he allegedly attacked her on Australia Day this year at her George Street home.

Mrs Temperley died seven days later.

Ray also faces two counts of rape and one each of grievous bodily harm, entering a dwelling with intent to commit an offence, stealing a fire extinguisher, breaking and entering, and burglary.

Ray did not enter a plea and a trial date has not been set.
