Abusive court outburst lands man probation
BAD behaviour in Gympie Magistrates Court has earned a Gympie man 12 months' probation.
Shannon Michael Gill, 27, appeared before Magistrate Maxine Baldwin on Monday charged with assaulting and obstructing a police officer.
The court heard that on January 8 at 10.10am Gill was in lawful police custody at Gympie Magistrates Court when he became abusive towards the magistrate and police prosecutor.
Gill's abusive outburst prompted Magistrate Baldwin to order police to remove him from the courtroom.
The torrent of abuse continued in the corridor adjacent to the courtroom where Gill's aggression was directed at police despite repeated requests to calm down.
As a police officer attempted to apply handcuffs, Gill wrestled and tensed his arms.
He was eventually overpowered and placed on the ground.
Gill had a conviction recorded in addition to his 12 months' probation.
