Wife tells of her marriage hell

MICHELE Irsigler said the four days before she killed her husband were "hell".

In an interview with police more than eight years after Jonathan Watkins' death, Ms Irsigler said she shot her husband after four days of being kept like a prisoner in her own home.

Ms Irsigler has pleaded not guilty to murder and is on trial in the Supreme Court of Brisbane.

She told police in a recorded interview in 2010 that she had been the victim of many years of abuse from her husband before his death in July 2001.

"He hurt me all the time, he hurt my kids all the time," Ms Irsigler said.

"He was a bastard.

"He treated me like I was a piece of dirt."

Russell Graham Pilkington and Ms Irsigler's new partner Jason Scott Bundesen have both pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact of murder.

They are accused of helping Ms Irsigler dispose of her husband's body.

The trial continues.
