Abbott's car hits scooter

FEDERAL Opposition leader Tony Abbott was involved in a minor car accident last night when the car he was travelling in collided with a scooter.

Mr Abbott was sitting in the front passenger seat of his Comcar which was taking him to a private function in Brisbane when a woman on a scooter hit the car as it passed through an intersection.

A spokesman for Mr Abbott said the woman broke her leg but all the people in the Comcar were unharmed.

Mr Abbott gave the woman first aid until police and other emergency services arrived at the scene, his spokesman said.

During the 2010 federal election campaign Mr Abbott narrowly avoided a major car accident during a visit to a notorious single-lane stretch of the Princes Highway, near Winchelsea south west of Melbourne.
