A wild German leprechaun makes a splash at carnival

JAMES Nash State High School students swapped the textbooks and pencil cases for swimmers, a beach towel and sunscreen yesterday for the school's annual swimming carnival.

While a competitive aspect to the day had swimmers battling for age champions and bragging rights, the day was also about having fun.

Students embraced the chance to dress up in whacky costumes and the school's German teacher turned many heads.

Dressed as a German leprechaun, he darted around the pool helping drum up school spirit.

James Nash has joined Gympie's other secondary school in staging swimming carnival to kick off the first term back at school.
