A mouth-watering finish to Three Cup Challenge

RACING: Unfortunately with the density of sport in Gympie I do not always get a chance to attend our local race meetings.

The Battlers Cup was the first chance I had to attend the track this year and the quality of racing was impressive.

However, the Gympie Turf Club's next meet is one not to miss.

The culmination of the Three Cup Challenge, the Gympie Cup will see quality gallopers Fasta Than Light and Foregone battle it out for the $5000 bonus.

Trained by Pat Duff, Fasta Than Light has recorded wins in the Muster Cup and Bundaberg Gold Cup.

Country racing expert Barry Fitzhenry wrote recently that Fasta Than Light appears to be in the box seat to take the challenge and will start just one point behind Foregone.

Speaking with Gympie Turf Club president Shane Gill during the week, it sounds as though the initiative to attract quality racing fields to Gympie by implementing the challenge has paid off.

He said the trainers have embraced it (the Three Cup Challenge) and this coming meeting will determine its success, but all reports indicate the move has been a positive one.

If you are a racing fan, or just do not mind the odd punt, the October 22 Gympie Cup will provide plenty of value.

With prize money of $20,000 it will not just be the two leading trainers vying for victory in the feature but also a host of quality gallopers.

Duff will feature as a guest speaker at the annual members luncheon.
