Beach police

POLICE have warned beach drivers to be aware of road rules applying along Cooloola Coast and Fraser Island beaches. A spokesman warned of increased patrols for the warmer months and urged drivers to be aware of their obligations. "The road rules for Fraser Island can be found on the Transport and Main Roads website. On the island the beach speed limit is 80kmh and on inland tracks it is 30kmh." Random breath tests were also a continuing fact of life for off-road drivers, he said.

Coast Guard

TIN Can Bay Coast Guard members know they must seem sometimes to be always asking for money. But there is a reason for that, Deputy Commander Phil Feldman said yesterday. "Equipment wears out and needs to be replaced, no matter how well it is looked after. And our boats do not run on air," he said. The group is mostly self-funded and members regularly undertake and pay for their own training. "We are very grateful for the help we get from the public," he said.
