Sun comes out for pony show

WIDE Bay Shetland Pony Promotion Group members couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to show their ponies at Gunalda following constant rain and storms in the west.

The sun came out on the group’s last show for the year and smiled on ponies, competitors and excited children.

Congratulations to Alan and Gwen Evans who travelled from Redland Bay with six beautifully-presented ponies to win two champions and two reserve champions with two-year-old filly Koorootang Mistique, most impressive black stallion Koorootang Highlander, four-year-old mare Koorootang Blackberry, and grey gelding Koorootang Galaxy. Koorootang Highlander won Supreme Led exhibit of show.

Lynette Lucht of L Bar Stud from Dalby gave them some stiff competition winning two champions and two reserve champions with black mare Domino Downs Just a Delight, two-year-old colt Koorootang Weston, three-year-old filly L Bar Jopper, and buckskin yearling colt L Bar Jaycee. John Lakeman won Champion gelding with Brulu Regent and most versatile pony with Vamara Chloe who worked hard all day in the sporting classes with the children.

It was such a joy to see our young breeders showing a collection of home-grown ponies as it takes years of breeding experience to achieve this. Kimmell stud won reserve champion colt with Kimmell Rocky Onyx, champion broken coloured Shetland with Jerkita Nesquik, and reserve champion broken coloured Shetland with Kimmell Wondering Rose.

Joy and happiness for Bradd and Angela Wessling when home-grown two-year-old Glenraven Lady Delilah won champion dilute Shetland over stiff competition.

Gayle McDermott presented chestnut Glen Fyne Cooper to win reserve champion stallion.

The fancy dress was hard work for judge Nev Philps who placed first Amber Wessling as ‘bedtime’, and Jasmin Wessling as a ‘birthday cake’ over Lucinda McDermott whose pony was a beautiful ‘bride’, Matthew Lakeman as a ‘fish’, Jeffrey Lakeman as an ‘Arabian with a camel’, and Tracey Lakeman as ‘Red Riding Hood with a wolf’.
