Man armed with metal pole bashed door-to-door salesman

A door-to-door salesman was chased down a West Mackay street by an irate householder wielding a metal pole. Then struck and punched after tripping over.

Stephen Alan Warne, 20, pleaded guilty in Mackay Magistrates Court to assault causing bodily harm to the man while armed with an object on September 19 last year.

Prosecutor James Grehan said the man went to a unit to sell a pay tv package but was told by the man he was not interested and swore at him.

While leaving to return to his car he swore back at the householder and saw him with a pole.

The salesman fell and when "curled up in ball" was struck by the pole. A witness heard a man yelling "I'm going to (expletive) kill you".

Warne agreed to pay the salesman $730.50 restitution.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
