Hundreds in street brawl outside Melbourne nightclub

POLICE have made five arrests after a brawl involving 250 people spilled on to the streets outside a Melbourne nightclub.

Officers used capsicum spray to subdue the crowd outside the Illusion nightclub in Carlton about 5.30am yesterday.

Four men and one woman were arrested but police did not say whether charges would be laid.

A police car's windows were smashed in the melee and one woman was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police are still investigating what triggered the all-in brawl.
