Anzac Day tributes welcome
RESIDENTS of Gympie region are invited to adorn the Memorial Gates with wreaths, bunches of flowers and other floral tributes today in preparation for tomorrow’s Anzac Day ceremonies.
The gates were built to honour the men and women who served in World War I and the Boer War and those who have served since in World War II, Vietnam and other conflicts are now remembered at the Gympie Memorial Gates and the unique Memorial Lane.
As a mark of respect to all who served and gave their lives for our freedom, the Memorial Gates are adorned with the flowers each year.
World War II veteran Dick Cumming and his assistant RSL member Tanya Easterby will be at the Memorial Gates from 10am today to receive and position your tributes on the gates.
“Both Gympie florist shops, Florists of Distinction and Karinya Florist, have again this year generously reduced prices for Anzac Day, which is indeed a grand gesture,” Mr Cumming said.
He said flower orders needed to be placed today and it must be remembered the florist shops close soon after midday tomorrow.
He said home gardeners can make their own floral arrangements from what they grow, to adorn the gates.
Schools are once again welcome to organise drawings, sketches and other artwork which can also be placed on the gates.
These can either be brought to the gates tomorrow morning or left at the RSL Club in Mary Street today.
