77-year-old cyclist killed in crash with ute

UPDATE: Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash involving a ute and a bicycle which claimed the life of a 77-year-old man in Bargara on Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to the intersection of Whalley Street and Grimwood Street at around 5.20pm.

The rider of the bicycle, the 77-year-old man, died at the scene.

Police said the 67-year-old driver of the utility was not injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident in encouraged to contact police.

Earlier: Emergency services are at the scene of a crash at Bargara where a man has died.

Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Steven Bechley confirmed a man, believed to be 70-years-old, has been killed after being struck by a car.

"There's been a tragic accident today where a car has struck a push bike rider and unfortunately the push bike rider has been killed instantly on impact," he said.

QAS received a call at approximately 5.30pm of the accident on Grimwood St, near the Sandhills Sports Club (formerly the Bargara Bowls Club).
