3.196 million Aussies tune in for World Cup cricket win

CHANNEL 9 says it has recorded one of its biggest sporting audiences after 3.196 million tuned in to watch Australia beat India in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup Semi-Final match.

An average Australian television audience of 2.277 million watched as Australia earned a spot in their seventh World Cup final, where they will go head to head with New Zealand at the MCG on Sunday March 29.

Glen Maxwell's direct hit had Mahendra Singh Dhoni run out at 9.06pm to a national television audience of 3.022 million, with India at 7/231 with 33 balls remaining.

At 9.19pm, 2.877 million viewers watched as Mitchell Starc struck the final blow, bowling Yadav out.

India were all out for 233 with Australia beating India by 95 runs.

The audience almost puts cricket up with some of the biggest games in State of Origin.

The Holden State of Origin match at ANZ Stadium in June last year was the highest rating Origin match on record.

A total 4.193 million viewers watched the NSW Blues break Queensland's eight-year Origin reign on Channel 9.

This is on top of the 83,421 fans who watched the game live at ANZ Stadium.
