30,000 plus will go red for Daniel
AUSTRALIA will be transformed into a sea of red later this month. More than 30,000 Daniel Morcombe wristbands and more than 3000 t-shirts have been ordered.
But even more significantly, schools have ordered in excess of 6000 of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation's child safety DVD to ensure our children are better protected.
On the Coast, police expect up to 5000 people could join the Walk for Daniel on Friday, October 28, to finish the return journey from Woombye to Palmwoods that Daniel was never able to make.
Denise Morcombe said she wanted the Day for Daniel not to be a memorial day for her son but a day to promote child safety.
Each year, as students walk the winding stretch, parents can be heard telling the story of Daniel as well as promoting police child safety messages.
Mrs Morcombe said more than 1100 schools and businesses across Australia had registered to take part in the day.
She said volunteers at the foundation's Maroochydore headquarters were still struggling to keep up with the requests for items.
About 10 volunteers a day are filling orders which started flooding in after widespread publicity about the arrest of Daniel's alleged killer.
The postage costs for the foundation have been huge and Mrs Morcombe recently paid a $10,000 bill. But she said postal staff had been great in picking up orders.
