10 Best Things I Have Read This Week

ANOTHER chilly week is drawing to a close but it looks like we are in for a stunning weekend.

I will be off to Roma but for those of you sticking around the Gympie region there is plenty on, including the fabulous annual Wine and Jazz Festival at Gunabul tomorrow afternoon and of course the spectacular Circus Rio out at the Showgrounds.

In tomorrow's Gympie Times we join forces with Gympie Regional Council to start the conversation on how to minimise the pain of the transition the Gympie Bypass could bring to some local businesses.

Meanwhile, we are heading towards the pointy end of the winter sports season and things are getting very interesting on the local sport front.

It's Super Saturday at the One Mile Ovals tomorrow with four big games featuring our local soccer super stars.

After a convincing win over Bay Power last Saturday, the Gympie Cats will take on AFL Wide Bay table leaders the Hervey Bay Bombers. The Cats are equal second with Power but a win this weekend would see them as legitimate contenders. We will have a big wrap-up of the game on website on Sunday.

The Cats have their last home game next weekend and we will be urging local sport fans all week to get down to Ray Warren Oval and support our local tea.

In other news, a recent call-out on Facebook asking what readers thought were the top five problems they want the council to address attracted a lot of response about one very specific issue: roads.

Imbil residents are pleased to see council take the Imbil-Brooloo Rd seriously with the installation of a traffic meter.

While this is obviously a sticking point for ratepayers and we will be following up on the suggestions, we'd like to hear your thoughts about any other wider problems in the region you'd like the council to address, or tell us what their plans are.

Email me at editor@gympietimes.com with your ideas, and with any feedback on The Gympie Times. I'd love to hear from you.

The Rattler continues to be in the news, but for the right reason, with movement at the station finally, and with a gentle warning for Gympie motorists to be on the look-out for the train, active for the first time in six years.
