A MAN who allegedly held up the Tozer St video store in Gympie with a knife has been remanded after appearing in Gympie Magistrates Court today.

At 8.45pm Saturday a man walked into the store and demanded a sum of money before running off and leaving in a vehicle.

Officer in Charge of the Gympie Police Station Senior Sergeant Graham Reeve said the 19-year-old male attendant was not injured in the incident.

He said a combination of good information and police work led to the arrest of a suspect after a witness saw someone acting suspiciously prior to the armed hold up.

Snr Sgt Reeve said the description of a man and a vehicle was given to police.

"As a result police located a vehicle a short time later," he said.

"A 25-year-old male was located and assisted police with their enquiries. He was later charged at the Gympie watch house."

The man was charged with alleged armed robbery and two counts of disqualified driving.

He is due to appear again in March.

Snr Sgt Reeve encouraged the public to call police with information on suspicious activity.

Call Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or 000 in times of an emergency.
