GYMPIE amateur boxer Kirk Dumschat and fellow training mate Ben Slavin are continuing Impact Boxing’s solid winning reputation.

The pair fought in Deception Bay last weekend and notched impressive wins, pleasing Impact Boxing trainer Mark Evans.

Dumschat secured his win against Sam Fagan from Pine Valley Boxing Club in a bout that had plenty of feeling as a grudge match.

The pair stepped into the ring in October last year and it was Dumschat to emerge triumphant.

Keen to back up his win, the Gympie boxer weathered an early firestorm before taking control and winning the fight by way of a unanimous decision.

Evans said Dumschat started to take control in the second round after Fagan came out strong in the first.

“Round two saw Kirk start to dominate with some superb footwork and some fast combinations,” he said.

Dumschat’s use of potent combinations, angles and light footwork ended up a telling factor in his win.

“Kirk moved the best he has ever moved tonight,” Evans said.

Looking ahead, Dumschat wants to lay his hands on a Queensland title and he must just get that opportunity.

“We are hoping to secure a Queensland title fight in Cooroy on June 5,” Evans said.

Meanwhile, Slavin overcame Richard Pearson, also from the Pine Valley Boxing Club, thanks to a unanimous points decision.

After a close opening round, Slavin broke away in the second round and never looked back, punishing his taller and tiring rival to snare the win.

“Impact Boxing’s young guns continue to fire!” an excited Evans said.
