Transformers Camaro leaves Gympie

AUSTRALIA’S only registered special Transformers edition Camaro left Gympie yesterday to move to its new home in Brisbane.

The yellow Camaro which rose to fame as the transformer Bumblebee in the blockbuster movie Transformers was bought by national retailer Dick Smith from Gympie company Performax as a prize for a national campaign.

Yesterday the lucky winner of the $150,000 car and Dick Smith representative Gray Bright came to Gympie for the handover of the V8 prize.

The lucky winner wanted to remain anonymous, but Mr Bright said the campaign had been a huge success for Dick Smith. “It is the biggest promotion the company has ever done,” Mr Bright said.

He said Dick Smith had received more than 10,000 entries to win Bumblebee.

Performax spokesperson Kevin Thoroughgood said the winner was getting an amazing vehicle.

“It is one of only two cars of its type in Australia,” Mr Thoroughgood said.

“The 2010 Camaro has a 318kw V8 engine that can go from 0-100 in 4.5 seconds,” he said.

Mr Bright said the success of the campaign had led Dick Smith to run another competition – this time the prize will be a flight to the edge of space.
