NICE NEIGHBOURS: Gympie tenant group president Gail Thomas, Marie Farenden, Sandy Morgan and Wide Bay Burnett regional tenant group president Pam Knight invite everyone to a free sausage sizzle for Neighbour’s Day in Gympie.
GYMPIE’S elders remember a time when get-togethers were with the people next door, across the street or on the next farm.
Neighbours were good friends and always popped next door for a beer, barbecue or a cuppa. The town felt safer and there were a lot less lonely and isolated people living in the community.
That’s why Neighbour Day was founded in 2003 by Andrew Heslop, the former national communications manager for the Australian Red Cross.
Held at the end of March every year, it is the perfect excuse to introduce yourself to new neighbours and make a special effort with older residents and people who live alone.
Gympie Tenant Group members invite locals to join them for a free sausage sizzle at Apex Park, Nelson Reserve on Wednesday, March 31 from 11am.
