ACCLAIMED Melbourne comedian, Lawrence Mooney is coming to Gympie to host the Heart of Gold Awards Ceremony tonight.

Mooney, who also stars in one of the festival’s films ‘Alone Together’, will join the festival’s special guests in what promises to be an entertaining night of anticipation as Heart of Gold celebrates the wonderful achievement of filmmakers, recognising the effort, dedication and energy of thousands of creative artists.

The Gold Heart Awards, featuring Dale Elwell’s beautifully handcrafted trophies, will be presented in the Heritage Theatre of the Civic Centre and will be immediately followed by the Art with Heart auction- an important fundraising event for the festival which showcases some of the regions’ most accomplished artworks generously donated by participating artists.

This will be followed by a party, and a full screening of all the winning films. It’s the best value ticket in town !

This year the Heart of Gold jury have had the difficult and rewarding task of deciding the winners from the 171 films selected for the festival. The major prize for Best Short Film is a $5000 cash prize, presented by Schuh and Co.

Other awards include: Best Australian Film; Best Queensland Film; Best Student Film; Best Drama; Best Comedy; Best Animation; Best Documentary; Screeners Award for Most Inspiring Film; and the Mayor’s Award.

The 2010 jury are Richard Sowada – head of Programs at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image; AFI nominated actor Damon Gameau who has starred in Balibo, Underbelly, The Tracker (and more); Holly Pitman - President of the Noosa Film Society; renowned Sunshine Coast journalist Bill Hoffman; and French screen composer Loic Valmy.
