Jason Montgomery.
CRITICALLY ill Rainbow Beach shooting victim Jason Montgomery is finally on his way home after being badly wounded in a robbery in Guyana, South America, more than a month ago.
Mr Montgomery has been suffering breathing difficulties and is being brought home by an American medical escort team, via Trinidad, London, Dubai and Singapore.
His mother, Sandy Brosnan, said yesterday she had spoken to her son in Trinidad and he was due to arrive at Brisbane airport just after midnight tonight.
His paramedic escort will accompany him by ambulance to ensure he is safely admitted to hospital, where it is expected he will take some time to continue his up-and-down recovery from a bullet wound in the upper abdomen.
“He left this morning at 4.30am and flew to Trinidad. He’s on a flight to London at the moment,” Mrs Brosnan said yesterday morning.
“The medivac team accompanying him say he is not in real flash condition and that the best thing for him is to get him back to Australia,” she said. Despite troubles getting help from the Australian Government, she had high praise for Gympie MP David Gibson and Federal MP Warren Truss, who had acted “instantly” to help, as well as his American medical transport company, Air Escort Inc.
