Saving Mary River a date to hold

Our beautiful Mary River and Valley.

SAVING the Mary River was never going to be easy, but many were surprised at how hard it became – especially as the months went by and the promotion of the project became more factually misleading.

Some of the greatest and most trusted names in engineering, education, opinion surveying and environmental science were shown to be far from accurate when their input to the Queensland Government was independently analysed by the office of federal Environment Minister, Peter Garrett.

The Gympie Times has been proud to be involved in what has been a long and bitter fight for truth and dignity, as well as a real and sustainable economic and environmental future for our region and its people.

We are living in a moment of history and legitimate triumph for our region. The Gympie Times will mark this moment with a special victory souvenir, our Saving Mary feature, to be published next Tuesday.
